Welcome to the first ever T.G.I. Friday we have a lot to get through from hockey to football and even a little of baseball talk and of course the tragic events that are going on in Haiti. Because of the massive earthquake that hit them early er this week so let's get started.
The Regina Pats play their first of two home games this weekend tonight taking on the Edmonton Oil Kings coming into tonight's game the Pats trail the Prince Albert Raiders by 8 points for the final playoff spot. With only 26 games left in the season the Pats have a huge mountain to climb but I think they can do it. They started this climb back into the playoffs I believe in their last game against Moose Jaw last Friday were they lost 5-2 and look really bad in doing it. But I know after that game head coach Curtis Hunt let them have it. And it showed in their play the next night against Medicine Hat with a 6-5 shoot out victory.
Which they followed up with a 4-2 win over the 10th ranked team in the CHL the Brandon Wheat Kings and look like a team on a mission for the playoffs. The WHL trade deadline passed and both Colton Teubert who is now the captain and Jordan Eberle still a Regina Pat and will finish their WHL careers where they started them. Some say the Pats will have to win 17 or 18 of their last 26 games and get some help along the way just to make the playoffs so be it then they will. It was this time last season when the Pats had two home games on the weekend against Edmonton and P.A. their lost both and that pretty much took the wind out of their sails they ended up missing the playoffs but that was last year and this is this year.
This weekend the NFL playoffs continue with four games in semi-final play as the Arizona Cardinals travel to New Orleans to play the Saints and the Indianapolis Colts host the Baltimore Ravens both of those games will be on Saturday. I don't see the Ravens getting past Indianapolis as the Colts are just to strong and will be in the Super Bowl against the Minnesota Vikings with Minnesota winning 29-17 that's my prediction you heard it here first. The Cards on the other hand are battle tested with making that run to the Super Bowl last year losing in it to Pittsburgh I can see them winning in an upset over the team from the Big Easy. Then on Sunday it's America's Team vs America's quarterback when the Cowboys head up to Minnesota to play the Vikings.
If it was not for the Vikings I would say that Dallas makes the Super Bowl this season. It will be the best game of the weekend the Cowboys and Vikings will put on a show and Dallas will give Minnesota all they can handle. And will lead for some of this game but in the end Brett Favre who just might be the best quarterback to play in the NFL will come out with the win. And for the last game of semi-final weekend the Ny Jets go to San Diego to play L.T. and the Chargers it what should be a easy win for San Diego but the Jets might have a few tricks up their sleeves. But there is noway they will do what they did against Cincinnati for the last two weeks.
So I guess former coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Mike Kelly gets off with a slap on the wrist after he slapped around his ex-girlfriend. In his home in Bridgeport Pennsylvania on Dec. 17 the same day he was fired. Kelly has been giving a month to complete an anger management course after which the charges would be officially dropped. So that now makes two former CFL employees who had some legal problems who get to walk free albeit the two are in two different Countries but still.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have resigned Chris Getzlaf and Hugh Charles not to sure to how long or for how much being that was not released which is really odd but it's problay for one year plus a option. In other CFL news the Calgary Stampeders have taking what would have been the biggest fish in the free agent pool Joffery Reynolds and have signed him to a extension. I was hoping that the Riders would have taking a run at him but that's not going to happen now.
So Mark McGwire was using steroids. And this is news why?? We all knew that Mark so quit your crying about it.
The NHL should be ashamed if it self after fining Canucks forward Alex Burrows and letting NHL referee Stephane Auger off without so much as a fine. Burrows said that before the Vancouver/Nashville Auger came up to him and said that you made me look bad so I'm going to get even with you. You can see on video the two talking but of course you can't hear what is being said. But I will bet $2500 that it was said.
We all know that ref's have their favorite teams and favorite players. I just hope the NHL gets it act together before the next time a player comes out and says the same thing that Alex Burrows did.
As for the best tweet I have read it comes from Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald. " 4 every 1 person that says u can do it, there will be 999 people that say u can't. Don't b discouraged by others, but b inspired by the 1".
That's the best way I could end this post have a great T.G.I. Friday.
