Today I will start a new weekly feature on the blog it will recap the week in sports that has just gone bye. So sit back grab a coffee or whatever you may be drinking at the time and enjoy.
I guess I will start will the hot topic in Regina right now and no it's not the Eric Tillman situation it's yes ladies and gentlemen the Regina Pats and the trade deadline. Is many of you may know the WHL Trade deadline came and went yesterday with not a whole lot of action around the league. But before we dive into that lets talk about the Pats trade/non trades shall we. There was much talk of should Pats G.M Brent Parker move his two star players Jordan Eberle,Colton Teubert me I was never in favor of traded these two big time players but it seemed like it was 50/50 amongst Pat fans.
Some have stated way would you keep these two when you can get so much in return, and that might be true. But there have been others who have said keep them they are the only chances of making the playoffs and folks that is absolute true. The Pats proved that when they were both gone to represent Team Canada at this years World Junior Championship when the Pats went a stellar 1-9 without them. All of those games came on the road due to the WJC being held in Saskatoon and Regina home of the WHL's Blades and Pats.
I do believe Parker did the right thing by holding on to them oh there was few that came calling but at the end of the day nothing good enough to pry them out of Regina.
I am sure that if something would have come up that Parker just could NOT have said no to while them that would have been a very black day. But like I have said I sure I'm glad that they will finish off their junior careers where they started them. Now onto the Pats only trade of the day and that saw the Pats send defence Matt Delahey(20) to Chilliwack for defence Mitch McColm(20).
To me this is a great trade for the Pats not only did they get a hard hitting d-man with playoff experience but they also get rid of some dead weight in Delahey most of the time his was unreliable and refused to hit. So Matt Delahey all I can say is good riddance and enjoy CIS hockey because that's as far as your going buddy. That's all I have to say about you I have already wasted enough time talking about this bum. I will post the complete list of the WHL trades today .
Now onto the other big news in Regina and that of course is Eric Tillman. On Friday Eric Tillman did the right thing by resigning after he pleaded guilty to sexual assaulting a 16-year old girl back in August of 2008. As far as I'm concerned there was no way Tillman could have or should have stayed with the Riders. After doing what he did again the fans were spilt 50/50 on this topic but in the end Tillman moved on.
Tillman did do great things here as the GM of the Riders but he will be remembered for what a happened in his home it should be noted that he was on two different meds at the time but it doesn't make a difference.I do believe Tillman will find work again in the CFL most likely in Toronto with the Argos as desperately need someone who knows how to run a football team and that is Eric Tillman. Some have mentioned Winnipeg as being a likely destination but I don't see that happening as the Bombers have just fired a guy for slapping around his ex-girlfriend and don't need anymore bad pr.That's why you will see Tillman end up in T.O. where he can do his job slowly turn around the Argos and just drift off into the back ground because nobody cares about the Argos in Toronto anyways.
Again I say good riddance we don't need the hassle and baggage that "The Tillman Circus" will bring where ever he goes bye-bye.
Now as for the 2010 World Junior Championship held right here in Saskatchewan (Regina/Saskatoon)it was a very successful one coming in 2nd in attendance records just behind Vancouver. There was alot of good things in this tournament to make Canadian fans happy but in the end the U.S.A stopped Canada from getting the "Saskatchewan Six Pack" as it was dubbed. Winning 6-5 in overtime all this coming after Canada was down 5-3 with only 3 minutes left to play that was until Tournament MVP,Canada's top forward,Tournament leading scorer and the best damn player in the world that's not in the NHL Jordan Eberle. Scored twice to tie the game for Canada and force ot but you know the rest.
Ebs also along the way became Canada's all-time leading goal getter (14) passing John Taveras who set the previous record last year (13) along with that Ebs also moved into 2nd for all-time leading scores for Canada just behind Eric Lindros who played in three WJC were Ebs only played in two. But I will give credit where credit is due the U.S dissevered the Gold Medal they played hard all tournament long the scary thing thing is that they were built for next year's tournament in Buffalo.
Well that's all for now have a great Monday mayhem.
