Pats star Jordan Weal had a goal and an assist to lead Team Cherry to a 4-2 victory over Team Orr in Wednesday night's CHL Top Prospects Game in Windsor. I caught him on his cell phone this morning while he was making his way back from Ontario.
WEAL: It was good. I played with some good players from Ontario and Quebec. It was good. I thought we worked hard and getting those points made it really exciting for me. Getting that win made it much more enjoyable.
RP: How was the experience?
WEAL: It was a tough schedule, and a long three days I thought. There were some late nights and some early mornings but it was fun to see the guys from the U18's again. Being in that atmosphere with all those great players was a great experience and a lot of fun.
RP: How'd you make out in the skills competition?
WEAL: I think I got third in fastest-skater behind Taylor Hall and the guy from Barrie.
RP: Do you feel better about your draft status after this game?
WEAL: I feel I helped my draft status but I don't know how much. It's good for a guy like me who wasn't ranked too high to go out there and show I can have some success. It was nice to be able to fit in at the top level for our age group.
