And then there was just one series left to be determined in the opening round round of the WHL Playoffs, and for the good of us all it is going to be another game 7. The third game 7 to be played in the first round this season. Both Calgary and Kelowna won their game 7 on Monday so who will take this game Spokane or Portland. My money is Spokane.
The Hitmen may have won their series with the Moose Jaw Warriors but they did it just barley. In what many thought it would have been over very quickly and ugly for the Warriors, they took the Hitmen to the brink of elimination. The Warriors believe it or not held a 3 games to 1 lead in this series, but three straight Calgary wins put to bed any thought of one of the biggest upsets in a very long time. But you have to take your hat off to those pesky Warriors as they gave Calgary all they could handle and more.
But it just wasn't meant to be for the boys from the Friendly City. But as much as it pains me to knows this and say it the Warriors will be a team to watch out for next season. I just hope my Pats will be ready for them and going another 1-7 against them, like they did this season.
The Kelowna Rockets are onto the second round as they beat the Evertte Silvertips 4-3. The home team had won all 6 games going into game 7, so you know the Tips had to be feeling pretty good about this game. But as the Rockets were the lower rank team they had to win just one game on the road in the series to win the series. And there wasn't a better time to do it.
The Rockets just somehow continue to pull the rabbit out of the hat when it comes to the playoffs. They will be in tough against the Tri City Americans, but they are the Kelowna Rockets so don't look past them.
That's it for now I will have a recap of the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs and a preview of the second round. West Conference tomorrow.
