The Saskatchewan Roughriders slotback Andy Fantuz is auditioning for NFL teams this week.
Fantuz who lead the league in receiving yards in 2010, and was the first Canadian born player to do so since Calgary's Dave Sapunjis did it back in 1995. Fantuz also took home the CFL's Outstanding Canadian award in 2010.
Fantuz just finished up a work out with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday. And has another one planned with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. From all reports the work out with the teelers went well. Both sides left the work out feeling good with what they both saw. No contract was offered at this time.
If I was a betting man and if I was to place my money on Fantuz getting a NFL contract. I would say it would be Minnesota giving him one and not Pittsburgh. But Fantuz will have to start as a back up and work his way into the starting lineup. Which Andy is a very, very hard worker.
Some say nothing to worry about he is to slow to be a wide out and is not big enough too be a tight end. Yes he may not have blazing speed or be a typical tight end. But Andy is a big time player all he does is make plays and he can be relied on to come up big when the chips are down. Another thing he has going for him is he is a possion receiver and is a pretty big target still which quarterbacks love in the red zone.
And have you seen those hands?
He has some of the biggest hands I have ever seen.
So after Saturday when hes done with his work out with Minnesota. He will be just like the Riders and us fans sitting on pins and needles waiting to see what is going to happen. This die hard Rider fan who is also a big time Fantuz fan is tore between seeing him stay or seeing him hit the big time.
I would love too have him back but it's always good too see great thing happen to super people. Which make no mistake Andy Fantuz is world class both on and off the field.
