MIDDLEBOROUGH(WBZ) - A woman was a attacked in her car while she sat in rush hour traffic along southbound route 28 in Middleborough Friday afternoon,police officials said.
The woman,whose identity isn't being released,was knocked unconscious during the assault that police are calling vicious.
Police say the man attacked her for 12 minutes.
"So within that 12 minute time frame,in heavy traffic,this individual got out of his car and attacked the woman,"Lt. Charles Amanetti said " At that point she went unconscious,and That's all she remembers.
Police are searching for the attacker described as a white man wearing a dark colored coat.
Surveillance from an area gas station shows the victim driving by,followed by the suspect's vehicle. Both the victim and the suspect's car are light-colored sedans.

They say it all began when a male driver behind the woman bumped her vehicle with his. The two pull their cars over to the side during rush hour traffic.
It's believed the man then opened the woman's car door and attacked her. The incident happened around 4:30 pm about one mile west of the state police barracks in the area of 205 West Grove Street.
It's unclear if the assault was road rage-related.
The woman regained consciousness as police arrived to help her. Police say the woman is in her 40's and that she is expected to be ok. She was taken to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Police said they initially thought her injuries were the result of a car accident but then learned she had been attacked by another driver.
Police ask anyone who witnesses the attack or was in the area between 4:30 pm and 4:42 pm to contact detectives on the non-recorded number 508-923-info(4363).
